It is important for us to be transparent about where your money go. This page explains the flow of money in our service, and clarifies how much goes to who.
Step 1: We buy carbon credits
So far we buy it through a partner, as we dont have enough volume to buy from project owners. The price is not static, first purchase was 20 EUR / ton.
Step 2: We sell carbon credits
The CO2 is sold at the same price as we buy it for. This is part of our concept. So to continue our example, we added the carbon credits to our service at the price of 20 EUR / ton.
Step 3: We add a payment fee
We use Stripe.com for credit card processing. As any payment gateway, they charge a fee per payment they process. The size of this fee differs based on the transaction size, and card type. We simplified this to just consider transaction size. The size of the fee is:
If transaction is less than 6,5 EUR: 5% + 0,05 EUR
If transaction is more than 6,5 EUR: 3% + 0,25 EUR
Step 4: We add a service fee
We add a flat fee to run our service. Simple. No matter the size of the offset it is always 0,2 EUR that goes to run the service.
Step 5: We add Danish VAT if you are from EU
By law, we are required to charge Danish VAT, which is 25% if our company sells something within the EU.
You buy 27 kg CO2 to offset 1 kg. beef. You are buying CO2 at 20 EUR/ton, which equals 0,02 EUR/kg. The price of CO2 is therefor 0,54 EUR. As this is less than 6,5 EUR, the following fees are added: 5% (0,027 EUR) + 0,05 EUR + 0,25 EUR. Price ex. VAT for you to pay is 0,87 EUR. If you are within EU, add 25% VAT (0,218 EUR) to get a total of 1,09 EUR.
You buy 460 kg CO2 to offset a 2.000 km flight. You are buying CO2 at 20 EUR/ton, which equals 0,02 EUR/kg. The price of CO2 is therefor 9,2 EUR. As this is more than 6,5 EUR, the following fees are added: 3% (0,276 EUR) + 0,25 EUR + 0,25 EUR. Price ex. VAT for you to pay is 10,23 EUR. If you are within EU, add 25% VAT (2,55 EUR) to get a total of 12,79 EUR.
